DJ & Mobile Disco with Dance floor Surrey

18th Dec 2011

We provided a mobile Disco and a dance floor at the Manor House Conference Centre in Godalming Surrey for a corporate event held by the company 'Dentons Pension Management Ltd'
We arrived (myself Jon Blackman & assistant Jo Chipolata) in the afternoon to set up the sound equipment and dance floor. The Dance floor was a 5 meters x 5 metres polished parquet floor with aluminium surround trimming - only took us 30 mins to assemble and lay. Then we set up the disco equipment using a Denon Mixer with a Denon Twin CD player built into a consul , C. Audio Amplifier and 2 x Electrovoice SX 300 speakers on stands .
The lights we used were some Martin intelligent lighting effects and a Varyon cluster laser used as a backdrop.
The DJ Julian English had an undemanding evening. The clients had had a big Xmas dinner and were reluctant to invite on some unnecessary indigestion which might have been the probable outcome of a prolonged spurt of energetic dancing!
All the customers were more than pleased with the evening however.

Karaoke Hire Staging hire London

15th December 2011
A big event held at the 'Grace bar' in Soho London for Turner Broadcasting
A nightmare to deliver - Great Windmill Strret with parking restruictions (i.e. none!)
Fortunately there were three of us Andy Spirit, my son Alfie and me (Jon Blackman). Alfie was on 'Traffic Warden watch' and Andy and I set up the Karaoke system and staging. We used a karaoke player, Dyancord mixer, 4 SM58 microphones and a Flat TV screen with stand plus 2 x EV SX 300 speakers. We hooked the video signal into the 42" Plasma Screen that had been supplied for our use only. We used 2 x 1 meter square carpeted modular stage pieces to create a small staging area for the singers.
Hectic night not helped by the fact we were crammed into a tiny area and subsequently experienced problems with some of the sound levels partly because there was a very large crowd who wanted it louder and as the speakers were so close together due to the limited set-up area there were consequent  feedback issues from the microphones when the volume levels were increased.
We got out of there alive minus one SM58 microphone which we will endeavour to retrieve. Typical London office party - a lot of very drunk over excitable patrons but nonetheless it all went well on the night

Disco Equipment and Dance Floor Hire London

14th Dec 2011
We set up a dance floor for the UCL Cancer Institute in London WC1.
They had a loading bay off Cheney Mews which was very handy plus a member of staff helped us trolley the dance floor through a long corridor to the canteen where their party was taking place. It was a 4 meter x 5 meter parquet floor with the mandatory aluminium trim. Whilst I set up the dance floor my colleague Andy ET brought in the DJ equipment that was also hired. Using 2 x Mackie SRM 450 speakers on stands with a Pioneer DJM mixer (which they ran their iPod through) plus a couple of LED lighting effects. The clients  were over the moon with the smart looking dance floor and the sound quality of the DJ equipment

Karaoke Hire London

1st December 2011

The Red Room in Ealing opposite Ealing Broadway station was the venue where we were delivering a Digital Karaoke system to.It was a corporate event held by a company based in the Ealing area. A charming Asian gut called Jonathan Chan was the hirer.
We had to take the equipment down a flight of stairs to a large reddish room. The room already had a DJ booth and lights so we did not bring any intelligent  light effects down with us. We used the following equipment: Media Hard Drive with an amazing 11000 songs, Dynacord 9 channel mixing Desk, 2 x Electrovoive speakers, 3 Senhieser microphones , 15" flat TV with its own stand. All fitted into a convenient area opposite the DJ Booth..
The karaoke night finished earlier than expected and the party went into Disco-mode. Andy Dolphin picked up the karaoke equipment and Jonathan emailed me in the morning to tell me that everything had run very smoothly

Dj equipment Hire London

Dec 3rd 2011

The Ship in Kennington South London were holding  a party where they had employed a couple of 'Vinyl Dj's'.
They required some DJ equipment that had to be delivered to the venue that afternoon.
An awkward start as the hirer had not ticked the 'Technics 1210' box on our booking form and therefore they had not been  not loaded onto the van. The landlady aka 'The Hirer' realised the mistake and rang us when we were already on our way! Well we got there and proceeded to set up the sound equipment regardless. We used a Pioneer DJM 600 mixer, 2 x EV SX 300 speakers and a 400 watt sub bass box. Fortunately there was a very convenient stage area for us to set up on.
Back to the Technics problem , it looked like it was resolved when someone produced some inferior Numark decks to use instead of the Technics decks (although they are reasonable turntables they maybe not be for 'Prima Donna ' DJ's! which is something I mentioned verbatim to the landlady) And sure enough when the DJs arrived , I received a phone call to ask whether they could still have the Technics decks. Of course you can! and they sent a taxi out to pick them up

CDJ Hire London

19th Nov 2011
A Straightforward DJ equipment Hire in London at a private address in Westbourne Grove Notting Hill.
The hirer was  a French Tunisian called 'Karim' (Arabic for generous) had not mentioned the 2 flights of stairs that we had to negotiate in order to set up the equipment in his spacious apartment
We used 2 x CDJ 1000 Mk3 CD players  a Crown amp and a pair of EX SX 300 speakers mounted on stands .
Karim had flown over a French DJ for the occasion . Jo who was helping me that day is a DJ too and had a polite exchange of details with this French DJ. As I write this blog we have not yet collected the DJ equipment as when we had arranged to pick it all up - there had been no one at home to open up. Bugger!

PA system March Rally London

19th November 2011
This was an outdoor PA needed for several speakers at the meeting point at the end of a march  held at the end of King Charles Street (off Whitehall and home to the Treasury and Foreign Office buildings)
The march and meeting was on behalf of the 'Fawcett Society named in 1953 after its founder  Milicent Fawcett who formed the original movement in 1866. The movement is focused on Women's rights
Back to the PA System . We arrived about 10.30 and set up in our van, the PA control and also a hired Diesel generator which we had picked up that morning from  a branch of H.S.S. We used six EV SX 300 speakers four at the 'Clive Steps' end of King Charles Street facing down towards  Whitehall  and two speakers going down the left hand side of the street. Because of the relatively narrow width of the street and the tall terraced buildings lining its sides We got a fantastic sound without cranking up our Crown amplifiers too much.
We used a small portable stage with 1ft risers to give the Orators a little height so as to be seen by the almost 1000 strong mainly female gathering
Everything went well, all the speech makers could be heard and the weather had a lovely autumnal  feel to it .
The nice backdrop of St. James Park was a bonus. Then the hired generator spluttered !!! Was it devoid of fuel? No. Just broke down,. HSS you must get your act together!
The speech makers used their megaphone for a while while we got out our battery operated speaker with radio microphone from the van and proceeded to quickly set it up . Meanwhile one of the speakers (perhaps unluckily for us the most militant that afternoon) took the opportunity to tell the ladies present "You see girls - you can not rely on men to do anything" I had to take that on the chin - no right of reply here. I must add though that Anna the organiser came over and said something to make me feel a little more comfortable after this libellous slur had been uttered! Fortunately the battery operated speaker back up was fantastic and held up for the rest of the afternoon's speeches .
It was all told a memorable day, lovely weather, all the girls from the Fawcett Society were very good to us, even the coppers on duty were happy. My battery operated speaker got a big kiss from me for saving our bacon and HSS got a big raspberry from me for almost having me hung out to dry

PA System Karaoke System Hayes London

Nov 14th 2011

This was a promotional event for a DVD launch of  " Kung Fu Panda 2 " whatever that is!!
The 'Shine' team organised the event which was held at the 'Super' Sainsburys branch at Hayes Middx .
Arrived at 10.00a.m. sharp to set up the following sound equipment  2  x Mackie SRM 450 speakers (FOH) 2 x Mackies for stage monitors -  2 x Db Sub bass speakers - 1 x Soundcraft mixing desk - 4 x Shure SM58 microphones with stands - 1 x Karaoke player - 1 x LED TV monitor with stand -  1 x 10ft by 7ft portable stage.
The whole event centred on the recently reformed boy/girl band "Steps" who were going to perform two of their previous hits and 'Kung Fu Fighting ' Lee and Clare were the two Steps members that did their bit for the small but appreciative crowd that was there to see what was going on. My sister in law once had a crush on Lee so I mentioned her to him (always nice to speak to a minor celebrity on a common subject) The whole event lasted an hour and a half . So my helper Mr.Dolphin and I  had a short day. All the hired sound equipment worked well and there were no technical hitches. Terrific!

Sound Hire London

5th Nov 2011

A simple sound hire job in Fulham London , specifically at Fulham Palace . Short notice booking and an early Sunday delivery . The film crew were shooting a pop video and required a portable battery operated speaker for an outside shoot. Unfortunately as we had such short notice we could not a full charge on the speaker for the commencement of the shooting so the crew had to use their generator to power the speaker for the early part of the shoot until the battery speaker was fully charged. Happy customers and a pleasant venue to deliver to  early arrival.

Karaoke Hire Surrey

3rd October 2011

We delivered a simple DIY hire karaoke system to the Hilton Cobham for a corporate event been held in the restaurant. I met Jane (the hirer) at the Hilton Cobham in the Mediterranean Restaurant  and after some deliberating and Q & A we established the best place to site the Karaoke system.
The Hotel were providing the mixer and speakers with Radio microphones . So all we had to do was provide the karaoke player, songs LCD TV screen and stand. It always seems to be the case that when you are doing set ups with a small amount of equipment the job takes longer. Suppose you take your time as you know there is not much gear and if you are using someone elses PA  - it can often mean that you are waiting around for them to finish their set up before you can start doing sound checks etc.
The event went very well and the Karaoke system worked fine according to Jane who I met the next morning when collecting the gear

DJ Equipment Hire London

7th October 2011

We hired out DJ equipment to the Law Society who were having a party on the "Viscountess" which was departing from Lambeth Pier London on Friday night.
Parking always a nightmare here (two prior parking contraventions ) but as twas past 6.30 the problems were lessened. The rig hired was composed of 2 x Pioneer CDJ 1000's . 1 x Pioneer DJM 800 . 2 x EV SX 300 speakers powered by a C.Audio amplifier and a DB Technologies sub bass unit. A couple of lights were used a small cluster lase and a Acme Matrix LED effect. Two Law Society students kindly helped us lift the equipment onto the boat.
At midnight I arrive at Westminster Pier to exact the pick up. Great start! I got on the wrong boat (there were 2 boats simultaneously docking and off boarding their passengers. After realising my mistake I boarded the correct boat. Lots of young good looking slaw students in their dinner suits and gowns merry making as they started their trudge to the Embankment road. Meanwhile some of us have to wotrk! Dismantled the sound equipment so that it was ready to be taken off the boat . I drove back to Lambeth Pier where the boat met up with me . From here I took all the gear to my van, the gangplank was horizontal as the tide had come in which made my job  alot easier. The event had run smoothly and the hired sound equipment had lived up to its task

Karaoke with Compere

We hired out a Karaoke system to the company Unilever in Kingston Surrey this Wednesday. They required a compere/DJ to operate the equipment and help to run the corporate event.
The Karaoke evening was held at their offices in Kingston Surrey. The compere "Andy Dolphin" arrived in  plenty of time to set up. Used  a karaoke player, 5000 songs. LCD TV, Mixing desk, Audio Technica 'Midnight Blue' microphone, Mackie SRM 450 speakers. All stands and leads of course. The evening started with a music quiz with Andy operating and an employee of the company doing the questions. Once this had finished - straight inti Karaoke. All present had a wonderful time thanks to Andy's personality and the high quality sound equipment that we used on the night

Lighting Hire Surrey

October 1st 2011; We delivered some lighting effects to the Surrey Downs Golf Club in Kingswood Surrey for a wedding event. They did not require too much but a job is a job!
We used 4 floor LED  par can up lighters . They were set on a colour fade synchronised to all do the same effect at the same time - placed on the wall immediately beiond the band (That they had to entertain them). We also supplied a a set of parcans with a light controller mounted on a tripod. The parcans had coloured filters and were set to a random program. These were placed to the side of the band and have the flexibility of been able to move  round to project into the dancing area if prefeered.
A small lighting hire job but well worth the effort

Dj Mobile Disco Golf Club

17th September 2011. We provided a DJ and equipment at Wycombe Heights Golf Clob for a 40th Birthday . We delivered the disco equipment in the afternoon so that the Host (Steve) could play his own tunes thru his iPod out of our sound system.
We used a Twin Denon CD player with a 4 channel Denon mixer built into the CD console. Pair of Mackie SRM 450 speakers and a DB Technologies 400 watt sub bass unit. 2 x Impossibled LED lighting effects and a small cluster laser. This was ample for the room's dimensions
Our DJ (Uncle Duggie - nickname ) had to cater for two quite diverse crowds. One set were into Retro house music and the other group were into 'cheesey stuff' . He pulled thru unscathed - despite the party going on to 1.45 in the morning. Quite unusual for a Golf Club party to go on this late into the morning.
Steve (the host) gave Uncle Duggie a generous tip. We got this one just right!!

DJ equipment Hire Chiswick 10th Sept

The venue was "Carvassos" on the High Road Chiswick. Not a great place to deliver as traffic is horrendous down the High Road as anyone who uses this route will testify to, plus Traffic wardens floating around like killer butterflies!
Delivering a "Technics 1210's" sound package which along with the industry standard record decks included a Pioneer DJM 600 mixer , 2 x Mackie SRM 450 speakers on stands , 1 x SM58 microphone,  cable for an iPod/laptop connection and all relevant cables and leads. Upstairs - groan! (free gym workout mind you) to a nice room in what appeared to be a jolly nice restaurant all told with its very usable function room..
Sound checked with some vinyl (always nice to hear the audio quality of vinyl as opposed to the now nearly ubiquitous sound of compressed MP3 files!) and then left after getting paid by client
Another job done another satisfied customer.

Karaoke Hire HMS Belfast 9th September

Our first job of the day was a DIY Karaoke system hire at the HMS Belfast moored on the River Thames London. We parked in a road called Battle Bridge Lane off Tooley Street London Bridge as this was the nearest access point for delivery purposes. A long walk to the quayside and an even longer walk on the gang plank before we finally got on the ship. Then a walk along the port side of the ship to a a narrow door and then a few narrow  corridors to negotiate before we finally reached the "Ships Company Dining Room" which has been modified to become a suitable function room for private and corporate functions. Thank God we bought the trolley to lug all the Karaoke equipment !
Using a CD based karaoke system with active speakers, SM58 microphones, 1 x 15" flat TV screen with a laser light chucked in to give some visual flair to the event - we were set up in no time. Some karaoke nautical instruction to the operator (Phil) who worked for the company whose event it was and then on to the next set up. On our return Phil was very happy with the equipment and our service . Aye Aye Cap'n Sail on!

Karaoke System Hire Surrey

Reigate Cricket Club was the venue on this occasion. They were doing a 'Stars in your eyes' type event. Not uncommon a theme to implement these days
The organisers were doing it themselves and required our company to deliver set up and demonstrate the workings of the Karaoke system. We arrived Saturday afternoon set up the following equipment: Twin CD Karaoke player (built in mixing facilities for microphones EQ etc) 2 x active Mackie SRM 450 speakers 1 x 15" flat TV sceen and stand  3 Audio Technica (Midnight Blue) Microphones and a DB technologies Radio Microphone for the host/compere plus an LED Martrix lighting effect. We also supply the customers with songbooks and request slips, they used our karaoke No 2 system which is CD based and contains over 4500 songs (bang up to date as well)
Unnecessary delays often occur on a busy Saturday . The guy who we were to show how to work the equipment was not around so we had to wait for him to arrive  - we have lots of deliveries on any given Saturday and hold ups like these are very frustrating.
All went well, although when we collected the equipment later that night alcohol had had its toll on the members present at the Club. Not an uncommon eevent in our experiences!

DJ equipment Hire London

An upmarket job this week for A1 Pro Entertainments at 'Pringle of Scotland' in Sloane Street Chelsea
They needed a DJ system for this guy that had been flown in from Germany to pay ambient background house  muisc for a promotional evening which was been held in the actual store itself
The system included 2 x Pioneer CDJ 1000's, Pioneer DJM 800 mixer, 2 x Technics 1210's , 6 x EV speakers (4 on the 1st floor and two in the ground floor) and one sub bass speaker to give the sound a little 'bottom end'
Obviously there was a need to have the sound system looking as neat and professional as possible. There was a jumper in this store for sale at the cost £695.00!! Get the picture. So great care was taken to hide all unsightly cables - the speakers had been deliberately spread all around the store in order to achieve an even sound distribution, hence lots of cables to hide.
Myself (Jon Blackman) and a colleague Julian had set up the equipment in the afternoon, Julian staying on to oversee the equipment during the event.
I received a complimentary email the next morning from a very satisfied manager on our "exceptional and friendly service"

Religious Event Outdoor PA

One of our bigger events that we cover in London, namely Eid which is the Islamic celebration of the end of Ramadan. A quagmire of a field in Fryent Park Kingsbury in North West London greeted us when we arrived to set up the PA Equipment for the 4 day hire. My son Barnaby was helping me.There had been a lot of rain that day and the van managed to get 'stuck in the mud' but after a few failed strategies  in trying to release it we finally were untethered from the mud and drove on up to the Marquee entrance where the hired PA was to be set up. The brother volunteers thankfully carried all the equipment in for us. We worked unshod as our boots were caked with mud and all the prayer mats had been laid down. The marquee had a dividing curtain in its centre as on prayer days Islamic tradition dictates that the women (Sisters) and men (Brothers)  are not congregated  in the same area as each other. There was a large stage where the nucleus of our equipment was to be placed.
We used a Konig and Mayer Ovation Pro stage lectern which has internal microphone connections . A small AKG C747 condenser mic was installed with  a cable running to our 16 channel Soundcraft mixing desk situated by the side of the stage. We were running 10 Electrovoice SX 300 speakers from
2 x Crown Macro Tech Amps (1200 and 2400) The larger amp running 3 pair of speakers and the smaller one 2 pairs only.
We had the 2 pairs of EVs running on the stage both pairs placed next to each other. This increases the sound yield by about 3DB which is  almost the equivalent of having another speaker!
We also supplied a handheld Shure SM58 Radio microphone for general use and of course a back up cabled SM 58 microphone!
On the day of prayer itself (30th or 31st August) The Imam who leads the prayer will be kneeling and facing Mecca (which I think is South West from  London's direction). We will simply use a goose neck condenser microphone  mounted on its own floor base unit and positioned in front of the Imam to pick his voice up.
Back to the set up, Jalaal who is the leader of AL FITRAH and  runs these events was there running things!
Someone had left the industry sized generator on from the night before and consequently had flattened the battery (although it took a few of us to realize this at first). Luckily for Jalaal I had some jump leads and with my van in position we got the thing started and were able to sound check the system before departing. A gruelling set up which had taken us nearly 2 hours to complete partly due to the muddy conditions.
My son who had helped me all day and was starving so I treated us both to an 'Italian' in Kingston.
Kingsbury to Kingston!!

Wedding Disco Hampton Court

We are the resident disco service at the Hotel Mitre in Hampton Court. This is a beautiful venue situated by the river . The Pavilion (is where we put the disco equipment) runs parallel to the River Thames with a large patio/Terrace area between them
Our Surrey based DJ Rich Chubb did a 4 hour set for the lucky couple. We used a basic set up: (as there is not enough room for a larger roadshow). EV SX 300 speakers QSC amp Denon mixer and CD players . Intelligent light show complemented by the use of a cluster ray laser light
All the guests had great time and danced practically the whole night

Karaoke Disco High Wycombe

We provided a great Karaoke Disco set up at a beautiful house for a 50th birthday in the High Wycombe area on Saturday 20th August. We arrived the previous day to set up the equipment in the celebrant's marquee. We used a Karaoke Twin CD player so that it could be used for disco purposes as well. 2 x EV SX 300 speakers, a Dynacord 600 Powermate mixer amp (used for its ability to take multiple microphones and possesses an excellent on board effects processor for reverb/echo etc. We used Audio Technica microphones ("Midnight Blues" as they are known). We left the customer  a spare channel on the mixing desk so that his kids could put their iPhones thru it to plat their own music before our Surrey based DJ Jon Henry arrived on Saturday night. The Karaoke was very successful Jon had a queue of wannabe pop stars for most of the evening!
The DJ had been booked from 7.30 -10.30 but as the evening was so successful, he carried on into the early hours before our client finally had had enough

Band PA Hackney August 2011

A lawyer celebrating his 40th birthday party in an East London terraced house. Our client had a 2 piece band performing in his own house with an expected crowd of 60 guests. We used a 10 channel Dynacord 600 powered mixing desk (has its own built in vocal effects which are of an excellent quality) Two EV Sx 300 speakers wre more than adequate for the small room that it was set up in. Our client wanted to play his own play list form his iPod  - so just a case of supplying a signal lead to facilitate this requirement. The musician needed a Shure SM58 microphone for vocals and a Shure SM57 mic for a saxophone. A guitar was DI'd thru the mixing desk. No room for any stage monitors but was not a problem. The client said the Musicians were more than happy with the sound quality and his praise of our delivery and collection service was of a very benign demeanour

Karaoke for "Totally Be You"

Today we provided a complete Karaoke system for under priveledged children on an housing estate in South London. The event was in the afternoon running between 12 and 3 .00 p.m. To keep costs down we used a basic karaoke system which comprised of a Twin CD player, TV, 3 x microphones and 2 x 200 watt Speakers. Song books and request slips were also provided. The compere 'Julian' ran the event with the  help of the dedicated youth workers who were present at the event. Our catalogue of songs is bang up to date so the kids could sing all thier favourite new hits. To make the young singers more visible we used a small modular stage which was one foot high. The afternoon was a great sucess.
